Modes

Overview

Modes are temporary screen time sessions that restrict the child's device to a specific set of apps. Use them for homework time, exam prep, family dinner, or any situation where you want to limit distractions.

Built-In Modes

KidMoat comes with two pre-configured modes:

Homework Mode

  • Allowed apps: Calculator, Google Docs, Google Classroom, Khan Academy, and other educational apps
  • Duration: Set by the parent (e.g., 1 hour)
  • What happens: Only allowed apps are accessible. All other apps are locked.

Exam Mode

  • Allowed apps: None (full lockdown except phone and emergency)
  • Duration: Set by the parent
  • What happens: The device is locked to a minimal state. No apps, no browsing.

Creating Custom Modes

  1. From the parent dashboard, go to Modes > Create Mode
  2. Name your mode (e.g., "Reading Time", "Sports Practice")
  3. Select which apps are allowed during this mode
  4. Set a default duration (can be overridden when activating)
  5. Save the mode

From the Parent Device

  1. Open the child's profile in the dashboard
