Location & Safe Zones

Overview

KidMoat's location features let you know where your child is at all times. Set up safe zones around important locations, get alerts when they arrive or leave, and review their location history.

Real-Time GPS Tracking

  • View your child's current location on a map from the parent dashboard
  • Location updates every few minutes when the device is active
  • Works anywhere with cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity

Location tracking requires the "Allow all the time" location permission on the child device. If this permission is revoked, the parent receives a tamper alert.

Safe Zones (Geofences)

Create virtual boundaries around locations that matter:

Setting Up a Safe Zone

  1. From the parent dashboard, go to Location > Safe Zones
  2. Tap "Add Safe Zone"
  3. Search for an address or drop a pin on the map
  4. Set the radius (minimum 100 meters)
  5. Name the zone (e.g., "Home", "School", "Grandma's House")

Alerts

  • Arrival alert: Notified when your child enters the safe zone
  • Departure alert: Notified when your child leaves the safe zone
  • You can enable or disable alerts per zone

Gamification

Children earn 1 coin per day in the Location Trust category if they have zero geofence breaches. Consistent location trust unlocks badges like Homebody (14 days), Trusted Traveler (60 days), and Location Legend (180 days).

Location Timeline

Review where your child has been throughout the day:

  • Select any date to see a timeline of visited locations
  • Each stop shows the address, arrival time, and duration
  • Useful for verifying your child's routine

Battery and Privacy

  • Location tracking is designed to be battery-efficient, using a combination of GPS and network-based location
  • The child app shows a persistent notification that location sharing is active — this is required by Android and ensures transparency
  • Location data is stored securely and only accessible to the parent account
