Setup Issues

What devices does KidMoat support?

KidMoat currently supports Android devices running Android 8.0 (Oreo) or later. Both the parent and child devices must be Android. iOS support is planned for a future release.

Do both devices need to be Android?

Yes, for now both the parent device and child device must be Android phones or tablets.

Why does the child app need so many permissions?

KidMoat Child requires several permissions to function:

  • Accessibility Service: Monitors foreground app usage for screen time tracking
  • Usage Stats: Reads daily app usage data
  • Location (All the time): Enables GPS tracking and geofence monitoring
  • Device Admin: Prevents the child from uninstalling the app
  • Battery Optimization Exemption: Keeps the app running in the background
  • VPN: Enables web filtering through a local DNS-based filter

Each permission serves a specific purpose. Without any one of them, certain features will not work correctly.

Can my child disable KidMoat?

KidMoat uses Device Administrator privileges to prevent uninstallation. If the child attempts to revoke any permission or uninstall the app, the parent receives an immediate tamper alert. Additionally, permission changes affect the child's Device Health coin score, providing a gamification-based disincentive.

The QR code pairing is not working. What should I do?

  1. Make sure both devices have an active internet connection
  2. Increase screen brightness on the parent device
  3. Clean the camera lens on the child device
  4. If scanning continues to fail, use the manual pairing code displayed below the QR code
  5. Generate a new pairing code and try again

Can I add multiple children?

Yes. You can add multiple child profiles to a single parent account. Each child has independent rules, gamification progress, and settings. Simply add a new child from the parent dashboard and pair their device.

Can both parents manage the same child?

Currently, KidMoat supports one parent account per family. We are working on multi-parent support for a future update.
